Vintage Fabric Summer Top

Here's a fun top I made recently with vintage fabric and pattern D from Japanese pattern book "Simple Wardrobe". This top was a quick and easy make, basic but with some nice details...  I especially like the neckline and raglan sleeves.  I made only a couple of adjustments to the pattern after doing a quick test:  I shortened the sleeves quite a bit and added a curved hem.  I'm quite happy with the fit (I made size 9 and mine is obviously not as oversized as the striped version in the book, but that's fine with me).  Oh, this delightful fabric is another treasure from my grand haul last summer.

vintage fabric galore

here are some photos of the load (4 boxes!) of vintage fabric i bought at the estate sale i mentioned last week.  it was a challenge to restrain my giddiness as i dug though box after box of cloth, pulling out beautiful pieces, adding them to my take-home pile.   i'm still a bit overwhelmed by this haul...  so much design inspiration and so many beautiful prints, i don't know which to use or what to make first!

wearing small sailboats

so here i am in my sailboat shirt.  david says it looks like something a character in a wes anderson film would wear.  (probably a little boy at summer camp).  yes, it's true, we saw moonrise kingdom three times (so far), but that's nothing compared to mister fox.

i'm no sailor...

but i did make myself a shirt with little sailboats all over it.  i started this in early summer, thinking it would be a fairly quick sew...  but then it kept being put aside and buried under other projects.  also it took a little longer because i decided to do flat-felled seams throughout, which was actually pretty fun.  anyway, i finally pulled it out and finished it last weekend, figuring i'd better be able to wear it before the lake freezes over and all the sailboats sink.

vintage pattern and fabric.  the pattern is a perfect fit.  the only alteration i made was to add an inch in length.  i love the curved hem and the no-dart, boxy shape.  i wore it out and about yesterday and david took a few pictures...  show you tomorrow!

the vintage fabric that this first tee is made out of is amazing, no?  too bad i only had enough for one shirt.  (i am so tempted to keep it).

new in the shop: vintage green floral pillows

this vintage fabric seemed perfect for pillows.  it's sturdy and smooth with a rather cheerful floral print.

if we had a porch swing i'd put one of these on it.  yes, that's what i'd do.

available here.

from scraps, with love

making more bows (barrettes and brooches) and magnets from my heaps of scraps.  my mom likes the bows and donated a bunch of her scraps to the cause.  i may have had dress out of some of these fabrics when i was a tot.  in the PF shop.

hello, bow.

i've been making these cute little bows for a while now, planning to put them in the shop.  i got kind of attached to the pretty pile, but the time has come to let them go.

some are brooches and some are barrettes.  all are made from saved scraps.  i hope to have them listed in the etsy shop on friday.
