Our Space by Tiffany

If you were hoping for a tour of our apartment, you're in luck. Photographer and friend Tiffany Bolk came for a visit and took some wonderful photos of our space and treasures. Check out her post here. Below are some of my favorite shots. It was fun to see what caught her eye!

christmas collection

our decorations are pretty localized, mostly just peppered along the mantel, but i did enjoy arranging this small collection of weird and/or old christmas bits among the glowing vintage flower lights.  this year we added the deer quadruplets and a festive space-man.

below are some photos of my sewing area.  one of my favorite places to be, especially when it's so bright and sunny...

loopy cushion

i started this project just after finishing my "grass patty" stool cover...  made the same way, tons of little loops, each consisting of about five chain stitches...  the yarn was a second-hand cotton sweater which i unraveled and the insert was purchased at a local craft store.  this plump cushion now lives on our couch with my happy cactus pillow (i couldn't resist buying one for myself!).  

for the back i single crocheted into the back loop of each stitch...  not following a pattern, i increased as needed, trying to keep the circle fairly flat, but knowing any lumps would smooth out when stretched over the pillow insert.



the back and front are crocheted together with a chain stitch:

in the nook

our kitchen has this nice nook.  david installed the shelves when we first moved in...  the perfect place to display some of our treasures.

happy arbor day

here is david's painting 'arbor day parade' hanging in our dining room. i sometimes still spot hidden faces and subtleties in it that i hadn't noticed before (or had forgotten about).

birthday branch

yesterday was david's birthday!  i like making him work (play) for his gifts, so this year i made a birthday branch decorated with bits of paper.  on each paper was a typewritten clue which he had to decipher to find a hidden piece of candy.  if the candy had a fuzzy little dinosaur sticker on the back he received a gift, if there was no dino he just got the chocolate.

last year's game was a birthday ball bounce and the year before was birthday beans (yup, those are the same beans in the birthday branch jar below).











in between searching for chocolates we worked on this jigsaw puzzle.
