a striped scarf

i began this scarf last winter and had it almost finished when the weather warmed up. it was tucked away until autumn rolled around.  in october i pulled it out, knit the last inch or so and wove in all the ends...

the grey yarn is carried throughout and is the same as i used to make my hat.  the colored yarns are left-overs from past projects...  the scarf wraps around twice and i gave it a double twist before sewing the ends together so the right side is always facing out.  i'm really happy with how it turned out...  pretty colors + very warm.

mustard slub

a new knit top i made from slub cotton.  (isn't slub a funny word)?  i used my old stand-by pattern, shortening the sleeves and adding a wider hem.  i love the soft texture of this fabric, though it was a little tough to sew.  so stretchy!

i'm heading to michigan tomorrow to help my mom sew ballet costumes for blue lake fine arts camp.  we're going to knock out about 25 fairy costumes in just a couple days!  after that david and i are going to our favorite lake michigan beach, ludington.  (my first post here included photos from last year's trip).   the shop will be closed until july 25, but i'll have lots to show you when i return.  holiday!

inspiration

i just spent way too long looking at this etsy pattern shop.  mostly i was looking for faces/expressions/postures to draw.  found lots of those...

  

   

but then i found some things that i'd like to make.  strange that i seemed to be attracted to the crochet patterns.  usually i don't like the dated-ness of crochet-wear, but isn't that dress pretty and the baby outfit cute?  (click on images to see 'em bigger). 

   

and then there's the strange stuff...  floating baby heads and loopy baby bags.

 

and this guy.  i love his style.  is warby parker going to make those glasses next?

hat success

i'm so happy to have finally knit a hat that fits and looks pretty okay.  (i think i've knit about a hat per year for the last five years or so, and they've all been flops for some reason or another).  i used the simple pleasure hat pattern from the purl bee.  the grey yarn is this super soft frog tree merino that i bought with a gift certificate over a year ago...  the dusty peach color is lion brand wool that i had stashed away. (i think this is my favorite color combo right now).

priceless

today is my cute nephew max's birthday.  2 years old! 

i had a bit of an internal laughing fit when i found this "priceless" fabric at a thrift shop a while ago...  it makes the perfect kid's t-shirt, no?  i happened to have just enough of of the right green ribbing (also thrifted) and some little silver snaps.
