here's a sleeveless top i made earlier this summer using a cute vintage pattern from the early 60s. the pretty fabric is also vintage, harvested from some sort of housecoat/robe. i kept the construction as neat as possible by making french seams and blind-stitching the inner collar and the armhole bindings. the only adjustment i made was to shorten the front a tad. i'm not sure i can do the big belt look, but i would like to try the sleeved version in a solid color (chambray?) to show off the fun pointed placket.
Nice fit! I am about to try to sew something from an old pattern for the first time. Although, it's from the 80's, so I feel like it's a bit of a risk :)
thanks, Sandra! i think the color of this vintage fabric gives it a modern feel. have fun with your new machine! simple pieces are the best, especially when you get comfortable and can tweak the design or add special little details. :-)
You always have such a lovely flair for mixing the right fabric with an interesting pattern. This is very cute! And your sewing skills are awesome, there's some gorgeous (quality) sewing right there.
your sewing techniques are so nice and clean!!! I always come to your blog to find inspiration!!! beautiful top and the fabric choice as well, you have a good eye for sewing and fashion!!!!

ReplyDeletethanks, meg! i was lucky with the fit, since i decided to go for it without doing a test… whew. :-) good luck with your 80s pattern!
DeleteIt's beautiful - both fabric and style! I just bought a sewing machine and look forward to starting with simple pieces.
