i'd been holding on to this thrifted knit fabric for a while, not knowing quite what to make with it. i finally decided that simple would be best... starting with a vintage kwik sew pattern (the one i used to make this top), i added a couple inches in length, skipped the hood, rounded the neckline and added a self-rib finish. not bad for a quick and comfy project. i forgot what a good fit and great starting point this pattern is for adaptations... now i have lots of ideas for ways to use up other knit fabrics in my stash.
kinda proud of how well this little pocket lined up:

Really cute use of that vintage Kwik Sew pattern!
ReplyDeletedid you use a template to press the pocket? we just learnt at school how to press them with a template and I felt stupid that I had never thought to do so before now!
ReplyDeletegorgeous fabric by the way!
thanks!
ReplyDeleteactually, i didn't use a template to press the pocket, but that's definitely a good way to do it. before pressing the edges under, i stitched just inside the seam allowance, so i could use the stitching line as a folding guide... this thick and stretchy fabric was a little tricky to press, plus its somewhat synthetic, so i couldn't have the iron very hot... anyway, lots of pinning and it came out pretty good. :-)
ReplyDeleteit definitely did come out well:-) that's a good idea to stitch just inside to use as a folding guide!
ReplyDeleteI was thinking it must have been tricky to press being so spongy.
