yarn again: the beginning

well, it all started when i bought a used knitting machine a couple of months ago (thanks to a kindly tip-off).  i wanted to use it, to knit and knit and knit, but i didn't want to buy bunches of new yarn.  so, of course, i went to the salvarmy and bought this bright yellow, 100% cotton, calvin klein sweater (for $1.50):

i washed it up real good and started to unravel.  with the help of my ball winder (and david, who turned the crank) i got a nicely organized bit of yarn:

and then we unraveled the rest of the sweater:

this actually isn't all of it.

anyway, i used about one third of one of those balls of yarn to knit us a lovely washcloth, which david tossed in the air like pizza dough while i took pictures:

isn't this the happiest looking washcloth you ever did see?

  1. Man, that's so much yarn! How lovely. I like unwinding sweaters too!

  2. there's something so satisfying about unraveling sweaters, isn't there? we're kind of addicted. (but don't worry, we don't have as many sweaters as we do puzzles)!
