michigan's glass trees

i don't usually feel a change when crossing state lines, but something always seems different when entering michigan.  maybe it's the bumpier roads.  yesterday, though, it was a big change.  all the trees turned to glass.  how can they afford this?  i wanted to take some pictures, but i also wanted to arrive.  so i just took some photos while driving.

i had a nice visit with annie and max.  i bought a cute clearanced meerkat with lopsided ears who looks a lot like ash (sans sock).  when i asked little max what a meerkat says he replied:  meow.

and it was time to head home.  as the daylight faded i felt bummed that i didn't take more photos of the glass tree phenomenon.  then there was a traffic jam (hooray?) and i snapped a few as i inched along.

the traffic picked up and i drove a bit still thinking it was a shame i missed the chance for some non-blurry shots.  then i realized how amazing the trees looked lit up by streetlights and billboard brights.  got off at the coldwater exit and pulled into some sports-store parking lot.  behind a bakery i found the most amazing glass tree of them all.  i took a zillion photos and  didn't even care that the man loading bread on a truck was giving me the eye.

strange how when you see something really beautiful other ordinary things start to look beautiful, too.  like one semi passing another.
